Nadhir Hamada, born March 20, 1948, is a Tunisian politician.
Former Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Development from 2004 to 2011.
Academic Training
A graduate in civil engineering from the Mohammadia School of Engineering in Rabat, Morocco, Nadhir Hamada completed a thesis entitled "Biological Treatment of Urban Wastewater Using Telluric Microflora" at the University of Lille (France), where he earned a PhD in environmental engineering.
Career
He began his career as a lecturer in sanitary engineering at the Mohammadia School; he is also an expert consultant for the World Health Organization in the field of hygiene and public sanitation.
He was subsequently appointed Deputy Director of Local Finance and the Environment at the General Directorate of Local Authorities, then Director of Local Authorities within the Tunisian Ministry of the Interior. He simultaneously held teaching positions at the National School of Engineering in Tunis and the School of Rural Engineering in Medjez el-Bab.
She contributed significantly to the implementation of the Urban Planning Code and Law No. 76/34 on building permits, the Forestry Code, and the hygiene and sanitation regulations for local authorities.
In 1994, Hamada was promoted to the position of Director General of the Housing Office for Magistrates and Staff of the Ministry of Justice, a position he held until 1997. In 1997, he was appointed Director General of Ciments Artificaux de Tunisie, a position he held until 1999, when he became Director General of the Sahara Pipeline Transport Company (TRAPSA). After four years at the helm of this company, he was appointed Secretary of State to the Minister of Agriculture, the Environment, and Water Resources, responsible for the Environment, on June 16, 2003. In 2004, he was promoted to Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Development, a position he held until the 2011 revolution.
International Activities
He participated in the Mediterranean Action Plan implemented by Yale University (United States). Assigned to the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization in 1986, he conducted a study assessing the state of the environment in the Arab world. He became president of the Arab Environment Ministers' Council group between 2006 and 2008 and president of the African countries group at the United Nations Environment Programme in 2007. He also held the position of president of the Sahara and Sahel Observatory from 2003 to 2010.
